I took these photographs of Joanna when she had just turned 6 months old. She’d been learning to sit for about a month by then and I was excited to catch her at this adorable and somewhat independent stage. Finally, I did not have to photograph her lying down, on her belly or being held by someone. She was enjoying her new found freedom of sitting unsupported but luckily for me, she was not yet fast enough to hurry away from my lens. Joanna was quite inquisitive about what I was doing so had to give her ‘Paco’ to distract her. Babies at this age are very interactive, so I was making faces and ‘funny’ noises behind my camera to get her to attention and she rewarded me with smiles, coos and lots of giggles.
